Researchers at the beginning of the twentieth century attempted to trace the origins of these small horses and believed that they descended from the horses of Mongolia and western Asia.
Origin: Mongolia and western Asia.
Colour: predominately of a dun colour with a dorsal stripe, although other colours do occur.
Height: between 11.3 and 13 hands.
Conformation: Light frame, short neck, slender legs, hard feet.
Character: Tough horse that can live in a harsh climate.
Uses: pack animal to transport coral for building and mounts for tourists who wish to view the island as well as for light Draught work.
