Eider Chase Winners By Year

Fixtures on the impressive All-Weather Tapeta track dominate the fixture list at the Northeast course of Newcastle. However, the venue retains a high-quality National Hunt course, renowned for its galloping layout and gruelling nature. Newcastle hosts two big Saturday contests during the jumps campaign. The Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle of November regularly attracts Champion Hurdle hopefuls, but this February event places an entirely different set of demands on the brave contenders.

Taking place over 4m1f on terrain that often resembles a bog, the Eider Chase is one of the most demanding jumps contests of the season. Those with any doubts in the stamina department need not apply. Given the marathon-like nature of the event, many see the race as a trial for the Grand National, with the David Pipe-trained Comply Or Die winning both races in 2008.
