Horse racing is incredibly popular in the UK, which has been the case for decades. Over time, jockeys, trainers and horses have come and gone, with others arriving in their stead as the sport evolves. With horse racing being fast-moving, there are always jockeys, trainers and horses to keep an eye on.
Jockeys to Watch
Tom Marquand
Tom Marquand, 26, is a British flat jockey who already has plenty of major wins to his name. From winning the Champion Stakes and the St Leger Stakes in 2020 to his recent success on board Porta Fortuna in this year’s Coronation Stakes, Marquand knows how to win and win well. It’s why the latest horse racing odds for his mounts will usually be towards the top of the odds list. At twenty-six, he’s still got years in the sport, and he’s only going to get better.
Hollie Doyle
The second jockey to watch is none other than Hollie Doyle, the wife of Tom Marquand. Like her husband, Doyle races on the flat and has a raft of major wins to her name, which include the 2021 Goodwood Cup, the 2022 Nassau Stakes and the 2023 King’s Stand Stakes, to name several. Doyle has been successful in both Great Britain and France so far, and she’s already one of the standout female jockeys in the sport at twenty-seven.
Trainers to Watch
George Boughey
George Boughey may only be twenty-seven, but he’s got plenty of experience under his belt after being mentored by Hugo Palmer. What Boughey did differently was set up on his own at a relatively young age, which has seen him already make his mark in the sport with juveniles in high-stakes races. Boughey is an innovator and represents the next wave of trainers.
In October 2022 we trained 23 winners in a month and I didn’t think we’d manage to get close to that again.
Well done to all my team on a fantastic June with 24 winners! We go again 💪🏼 pic.twitter.com/gJMlYwnFXC

Tom Clover
A lot of trainers rely on their reputation, and Tom Clover has built his up over time. Clover is renowned for his success on the flat and National Hunt, largely due to his meticulous approach. He’s taken young horses and has managed to turn them into winners, which has been great for his stable. If he continues in this way, a top-level career awaits.
Horses to Watch
Inspiral
There are two things that really grab the attention when thinking about Inspiral – she’s trained by John and Thady Gosden, and her sire is Frankel. At five years old, there’s still plenty more to come from Inspiral, especially with her bloodlines. She’s already had success in major stakes races, and many more are expected in the coming years. The Gosdens will make sure of that.
Luxembourg
Like Inspiral, Luxembourg is a five-year-old with an excellent trainer in the form of Aidan O’Brien. Having someone like O’Brien involved means a horse certainly has more chance of living up to its billing because he’s been there and done it. Speed and endurance are the standout attributes with Luxembourg, and this opened the door for success in crucial races from being two years old onwards.
