Royal Ascot 2024 Full Results

The five-day spectacular that is Royal Ascot got underway on Tuesday 18th June in 2024, running through to Saturday 22nd June.

Across meeting there were a total of 35 races, seven on each day, with over £10m in prize money paid out over the week. Wednesday’s Prince Of Wales’s Stakes and Saturday’s Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes carried the biggest purses, worth £1m each.

Amongst the highlights for the week was a 2,000 Guineas rematch between Charlie Appleby’s Notable Speech and Richard Hannon’s Rosallion and Aidan O’Brien’s star stayer Kyprious looking to regain his Ascot Gold Cup Crown after finishing second to Trawlerman in 2023.

Tuesday 18th June 2024 (Day One)

Royal Ascot opened with a win for Roger Varian with 10/3 favourite Charyn in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes. The hotly anticipated St James’s Palace clash was won by Richard Hannon’s Rosallion, with the horse that finished ahead of him in the 2,000 Guineas, Notable Speech, down in sixth place.

The big Group 1 sprint, the King Charles III Stakes, was won by Henry Dwyer’s Australian recruit Asfoora, and there was a big shock in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes with 80/1 shot Rashabar taking the spoils for Brian Meehan. Willie Mullins proved he success isn’t limited to jump racing when winning the final race of the day, the 1m6f Copper Horse Handicap, with Belloccio.

Wednesday 19th June 2024 (Day Two)

Prince Of Wales Stakes Day

The Dual Epsom and Irish Derby winner form 2023, Auguste Rodin, didn’t disappoint favourite backers when winning the big race of the day in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes. This completed a double on the day for both Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore who won the Queen’s Vase earlier on with Illinois.

Also securing a double on day 2 was jockey Oisin Murphy who won the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes with Running Lion for John and Thady Gosden, following up with first place finish in the Royal Hunt Cup onboard Wild Tiger for Saeed bin Suroor in the blue of Godolphin.

Ladies Day

All eyes were on the Gold Cup on Ladies Day, with Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore turning the tables on last year’s result with Trawlerman to win with Kyprios for a second time. This followed on from another Group victory for the pair when Port Fairy was victorious in the Ribblesdale Stakes.

Friday 21st June 2024 (Day Four)

Coronation Stakes Day

There was no double on day four for the O’Brien and Moore combination but they did win the first race on Thursday, the Group 3 Albany Stakes, with 15/8 favourite Fairy Godmother.

The was Group 1 success for Kevin Ryan with Inisherin in the Commonwealth Cup and Donnacha O’Brien with Porta Fortuna in the Coronation Stakes. The most impressive victory of the day went to Francis-Henri Graffard’s Calandagan who won the King Edward VII Stakes by six lengths.

Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes Day

Saturday’s highlight was the 6f Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes which was won for a second year in a row by Charles Hills’ Khaadem, this year with Oisin Murphy in the saddle.

Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore took their tally to six wins each for the meeting with Bedtime Story in the Chesham Stakes. By winning the Queen Alexandra Stakes with Uxmal, Joseph O’Brien became the third member of the O’Brien family to train a winner at Royal Ascot in 2024.
