New Forest Pony

There were wild horses in the New Forest at the time of Canute (c.995-1035) and the breed has been influenced by many others including the thoroughbred and the Arab.

There are still ‘wild’ herds in the forest, although long used to human contact they are docile and friendly.

Origin: New Forest, Southern England.

Colour: Any solid colour is acceptable, and white markings are permitted.

Height: between 12 and 14.2hh.

Conformation: large head, sloping shoulder, deep girth, good legs and feet.

Character: intelligent, docile, responsive.

Uses: riding, particularly children, and driving.
