Ireland's draught horse dates back to Norman times
when imported horses were crossed with smaller native animals. Later
crosses included Andalusian, to produce an allrounder, suitable for
riding, pulling a trap or working on a small farm.
Now renowned as a heavyweight hunter, and crossed with the thoroughbred
to produce quality hunters and competition horses. |

| Colour: Bay, brown, chestnut and grey. |
| Height: between 15 and 17hh. |
| Conformation: neat head, on strong, short
neck, powerful body, strong legs, large round feet. |
| Character: sensible, willing, docile. |
