Bred to race over a quarter-mile, it is now the most
popular breed in the USA. It can be traced back to horses taken to
America by the Spanish Conquistadores. While Quarter horse racing still
has an enthusiastic following, and the horse excels in practical ranch
work, it is now more widely used for leisure - in Western-style
competitions and trail riding. |
