This primitive
horse (it has 66 chromozomes instead
of 64) was thought to have been
hunted to extinction by Mongolian
tribesmen, until a small herd was
discovered in 1881 on the edge of
the Gobi Desert by the Russian
Explorer, Col. N. Przewalski. It is
still threatened with extinction,
although it is found in many zoos.
