The Fell pony is renowned for its strength - when
used for carting lead , on the western side of the Pennines, it was
reputedly carried daily loads of 220 lb for up to 30 miles. |

| Colour: Usually black, though also bay, brown
and grey. White markings on legs are allowed. |
| Height: between 13 and 14hh. |
| Conformation: alert head and long neck, a
muscular body and strong, feathered legs. |
| Character: alert, hard worker. |
| Uses: riding, trekking, driving. |
